The Star, headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys, is the landmark Frisco is best known for, in a city that grew from a railroad stop into one of the fastest growing in the country and embraces the label Sports City USA. The PGA of America also sits here, along with Toyota Stadium and the Frisco Rough Riders. About 237,000 people live here, roughly 28 miles north of Dallas.
Day to day it is a family suburb, with master-planned neighborhoods like Starwood and Fields, big shopping at Stonebriar Centre and The Shops at Legacy, and several good hospitals. Few people come for a quiet weekend, but sporting events, the Nebraska Furniture Mart and holiday lights draw crowds. It ranks among the safer large Texas suburbs, and theft from cars is the main issue. The tradeoff is cost, since housing is expensive even though growth has slowed. Traffic on the Dallas North Tollway and SH 121 is heavy, spring brings hail and tornado risk, and summer passes 100 F.
