Ask anyone in Kansas City where to eat and the answer is barbecue, with no argument at the table. Joe's, Arthur Bryant's and Q39 are just a few stops on a proper crawl. Beyond food, the city is proud of its jazz roots at 18th and Vine, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, and a National WWII Museum that draws serious crowds. It also has more fountains than most cities, which is where the nickname comes from.
About 520,000 people live in the city, with more than two million across the metro area. It feels friendly and Midwestern, housing is reasonably priced, and the market is currently competitive. Neighborhoods like Crossroads, the River Market and Brookside give it local flavor. On the downside, violent crime is well above the national rate, especially east of Troost Avenue, and Westport and Power and Light can get rowdy late. Spring brings tornado season, and summers are hot and humid.
