Locals in Sioux City live where Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota meet along the Missouri River, in the region they call Siouxland. About 86,000 people live here. The city has a Lewis and Clark history, and the Sergeant Floyd Monument honors the only member of that expedition to die on the trip.
Things to do include the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, the Sioux City Public Museum, a night out on the Historic Fourth Street entertainment strip, and a drive into the Loess Hills and Stone State Park. Summer brings the Saturday in the Park music festival and Explorers baseball. It is one of the more affordable cities in the region, and homes are inexpensive. Winters bring blizzards and ice, spring and summer bring severe storms and tornadoes, and the river has flooded in past years. Crime is moderate, with vehicle theft and property crime the main worry, and parts of the Northside are best avoided after dark.
