Logan anchors Cache Valley in northern Utah as a college and cultural hub with about 56,000 people and Utah State University at its center. The historic Main Street, the Tabernacle and the Ellen Eccles Theatre give downtown some character, and the surrounding mountains are never far from view.
Logan Canyon Scenic Byway runs right out of town to Tony Grove Lake, and Bear Lake is about 45 miles away. Beaver Mountain and Cherry Peak are the local ski areas, and mountain biking is popular. Summer brings Utah Festival Opera, and the university adds theater, sports and its well-known Aggie Ice Cream. Salt Lake City is about 80 miles south. It is a safe place, with petty theft and weekend party trouble near campus the main issues. Winters are snowy, and January and February inversions trap poor air in the valley. Housing is pricey for local wages, and most people here rent.

Safety information is a guide from public data and our research, not a guarantee. Conditions change; check local news and official advice before you go.
Safety overview
Crime is low, with mostly petty theft and alcohol-related incidents; violent crime is rare (exact rates not verified in this pass). Hospitals: Logan Regional Hospital (Intermountain). Hazards: cold snowy winters, inversions that cause poor air quality in January and February (Cache Valley is among Utah's worst for winter particulate), avalanche risk in Logan Canyon backcountry, and about 4,500 ft elevation (mild)
Local notes
Specific places where extra care is worthwhile, especially at night. Most visits are trouble-free.
None of particular note; Logan is a safe college town. Use ordinary caution around bars and parties near campus late at night on weekends, and on icy roads in Logan Canyon
Times marked “est.” are estimates: drives use typical road distances at highway speeds, and train or bus times assume both cities have service. Always check a route planner and timetables before you travel.
