Ask a North Carolinian about Cary and you may hear the old joke that the name stands for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees. There is some truth behind it. This is a tech and biotech suburb of Raleigh, home to about 180,000 people, and it has drawn newcomers from all over for the Research Triangle jobs and the schools. Legally it is still a town.
Life here is tidy and comfortable. Greenways run through much of it, Bond Park and Lake Crabtree are popular for walking and paddling, and the Koka Booth Amphitheatre hosts summer concerts, including North Carolina Symphony nights, by Symphony Lake. Downtown Cary is small and walkable, with a farmers market on Saturdays. USA Baseball also trains here. It is consistently ranked among the safer larger towns in the state, and Raleigh is about 10 miles away. The catch is price: housing is high, driven by demand. Expect hot, humid summers, heavy spring pollen and the occasional hurricane rainstorm.
