Planned from 1963 on drained Everglades land, Coral Springs is a Broward County suburb of about 139,000 people, now known as the City in a Park. Daily life means green, orderly streets, lakes, canals and golf communities like Eagle Trace and The Fairways. It has a reputation as a safe, family-oriented place with good schools, and that is much of why people move here.
For visitors, the attractions are modest: the Museum of Art, the Center for the Arts, The Walk shopping district, and nearby Butterfly World and Tradewinds Park. Sawgrass Mills mall is adjacent, Everglades airboat tours are close, and the Atlantic beaches are about 20 minutes east. Prices are high for Florida, especially for single-family homes near the good schools, and condo owners face rising insurance and HOA bills. Expect hurricane season, sudden summer storms, humid heat and mosquitoes. Alligators live in the canals and ponds, so keep back from the water's edge, particularly at night.
