A normal week in Kentville means a walk through the Ravine, errands on Main Street, and the farmers market on Saturday, which runs all year. It is the working hub of the Annapolis Valley and the Kings County seat, with a federal research station and public gardens right in town. About 6,600 people live here, and many more in the farms and villages around it.
Visitors mostly use it as a base. Wolfville and Acadia University are about 10 km away, Grand-Pré National Historic Site is around 15 km, and Cape Split is a drive of roughly 40 km. Late May brings the Apple Blossom Festival and its parade, and autumn is harvest season, when the wineries and cideries are busy. Housing costs less than in most of Canada, though rentals have been tight for a few years. Winters are snowy, with freezing rain, and Halifax is about 95 km away.

7.0
Very good · Data-based
Crime Severity Index around 80; the Canadian figure is about 80.
Safety overview
Crime is low to moderate (Kentville Police Service; Statistics Canada CSI near the national average, roughly 70-90, approximate); main risks are property theft and vehicle break-ins. Emergency 911. Health care: provincial coverage does not cover visitors from other countries, so travel health insurance is advisable; Canadian visitors should carry their provincial health card. Hospital: Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville (emergency room, Nova Scotia Health Central Zone). Hazards: cold snowy winters (-5 to -15 C, nor'easters and freezing rain), post-tropical storms and flooding of the Cornwallis River, extreme Fundy tides, summer heat and ticks
Local notes
Specific places where extra care is worthwhile, especially at night. Most visits are trouble-free.
No areas widely flagged for visitors; use ordinary caution late at night downtown; stay off the Bay of Fundy mudflats and tidal areas, and be careful on Highway 101 in winter storms and fog
Times marked “est.” are estimates: drives use typical road distances at highway speeds, and train or bus times assume both cities have service. Always check a route planner and timetables before you travel.
