Overview

Lunenburg's UNESCO old town is about 20 km from Bridgewater, Mahone Bay about 30, and Kejimkujik National Park about 45, which makes this a good base for the postcards nearby. The town calls itself the Main Street of the South Shore, and that is a fair description. About 8,800 people live along the LaHave River, and it is where the surrounding region comes to shop, see a doctor and run errands. It is not a postcard place itself.

In town you can walk the riverfront trail, visit the DesBrisay Museum and browse the Saturday farmers market. Living here costs less than most of Canada, but prices and rents have climbed fast since 2020 and vacancies are tight. Crime is near the national average. Autumn brings post-tropical storms, and winters mean freezing rain.

About this data

Population 8,790 (2021 Census), area 13.63 sq km, elevation about 22 m, coordinates and founding from Wikipedia (coordinates rounded). Wikipedia showed no 2021 census agglomeration figure, so metro is set equal to the city figure (approximate; a wider CA may exist with a larger figure, not confirmed). visitor_website is the Nova Scotia provincial tourism site (no dedicated Bridgewater tourism site confirmed) and event_calendar uses the same site. Web fetch of Wikipedia was used for population, area, elevation, coordinates and founding; StatCan pages were not retried (robots-blocked). Event names and months, hotel ranges, cost of living, crime index, rent, prices and distances are approximate or from general knowledge and not verified. All money in CAD.
