About 55 miles past the nearest big hospital, at the very tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown has a sense of land's end that shapes everything. It is a town of around 3,500 residents with a long history as an art colony and one of the best known LGBTQ vacation spots in the country.
Days here mean walking Commercial Street past galleries and shops, biking the Province Lands trails, walking the dunes and beaches of the National Seashore, and taking a whale watching boat out of the harbor. Nights bring drag and cabaret shows. Pilgrim Monument towers over everything. Summer is packed, parking is hard and the crowds can be loud. Winter is quiet and windswept, and many places close. Housing is very expensive, and year-round rentals are scarce. Storms and coastal flooding are a real concern.
