Overview

Cross the marker on the boundary in Lloydminster and you step from Alberta into Saskatchewan, because the border runs straight down the middle of town. It is Canada's only city split between two provinces, and locals happily point it out. About 32,000 people live here, and the economy runs on heavy oil and the services around it.

It is a practical prairie city, flat and friendly, with wide streets, a big exhibition and stampede ground, and plenty of parks. Visitors can see the Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre, walk Weaver Park, spend an afternoon at the waterpark, or drive out to Fort Pitt Provincial Park. Living costs are a little below the Canadian average and homes are moderate, though prices follow the oil market. Winters are long and cold, blizzards happen, and crime runs above the national average, mostly property theft. Edmonton and Saskatoon are each about 250 km away.

About this data

Population 31,582 (whole city, 2021 Census; 19,739 Alberta side and 11,843 Saskatchewan side), area 42.04 sq km, elevation 645 m, coordinates and incorporation dates from Wikipedia (fetched). Lloydminster is a CA with the same 31,582 figure, so population_metro equals city (not separately confirmed). The time zone entry is approximate: the Saskatchewan half is officially on CST year-round but the whole city unofficially keeps Mountain time. Visitor URL is the city site (https://www.lloydminster.ca/), recalled and not confirmed by fetch; no dedicated tourism site was seen, so the same URL is used for event_calendar. Event names and months, coordinates rounded, hotel ranges, cost of living, crime index, rent, home prices and distances are approximate or from general knowledge and not verified. Web search was not used for these figures; only Wikipedia pages were fetched. All money in CAD.
