For a university town of about 5,000 people in the Annapolis Valley, Wolfville has the feel of a place where people actually want to be. Acadia University gives the town energy, especially on Main Street, where cafes, shops and restaurants line the way down to the harbor and the Bay of Fundy tides.
The surrounding countryside is the draw: vineyards in the Gaspereau Valley, the Grand-Pre UNESCO landscape only about 5 km away, and the Cape Split hike about 45 km off. The Saturday farmers market runs all year, and the Devour food film fest and Deep Roots music festival bring visitors in autumn. It is pricier than most of Nova Scotia, since students, retirees and Halifax commuters all compete for housing. Crime is low. Fundy tides rise fast, so stay off the flats, and check for ticks after hiking. Halifax is about 90 km away.

Excellent · Data-based
Crime Severity Index around 43; the Canadian figure is about 80.
Safety overview
Crime is low (Kentville and Wolfville police services; the Crime Severity Index is well below the national average, roughly 30-55, approximate); main risks are alcohol-related incidents and theft. Health care: Nova Scotia MSI does not cover visitors, so travel health insurance is advisable. Hospital: Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville (about 8 km), with an emergency room. Hazards: Bay of Fundy tides (up to about 12 m), winter storms, hurricane and post-tropical remnants in fall, tick-borne Lyme disease in grass and woodland. Emergency 911
Local notes
Specific places where extra care is worthwhile, especially at night. Most visits are trouble-free.
No areas widely flagged for visitors; use ordinary caution on Main Street late at night when students are out and around waterfront and dyke trails at high tide; Bay of Fundy tides rise very fast, so avoid walking on tidal flats and the Cape Split trail at high water
Times marked “est.” are estimates: drives use typical road distances at highway speeds, and train or bus times assume both cities have service. Always check a route planner and timetables before you travel.
