Living in Corona means car-centered, family-oriented days at the edge of the Inland Empire, where Orange County commuters trade the coast for more space. It goes by the Circle City because of Grand Boulevard, a roughly three-mile ring road around downtown, and it once called itself the lemon capital of the world. Today it is a suburban city of about 160,000 people with a small historic center, big shopping districts like Dos Lagos, and trails along the Santa Ana River and up Skyline Drive into the Cleveland National Forest.
There are upscale planned neighborhoods like Eagle Glen on the south side. Visitors mostly come for the farmers market, the car shows, the heritage park and the craft beer scene. The tradeoffs are real. Housing is expensive for the region, summers regularly pass 100 degrees, and the 91 Freeway can be punishing at rush hour. Wildfire and Santa Ana wind risk touch the foothill areas, and car break-ins are the main crime worry.
