Overview

Where Saint-Jovite is the everyday town for groceries and dining, Mont-Tremblant is Quebec's best known ski resort, in the Laurentians about 130 km north of Montreal. The city has about 10,000 residents but covers a very large area, and on a winter weekend the population feels many times bigger. The Pedestrian Village at the base of the mountain is the main attraction.

Winter is skiing, but summer is just as busy. Parc national du Mont-Tremblant has hiking and canoeing, the lakes have beaches, and the P'tit Train du Nord trail is great for cycling. Ironman races in summer and the fall colours in early October bring crowds. It is a resort town and priced like one, with high housing costs, scarce rentals and seasonal worker shortages. Crime is low. French is the main language, though English is widely used in the resort. Winters are cold, and highway traffic on peak weekends is heavy.
