Football's hometown is Canton, where the NFL was born in 1920. The Pro Football Hall of Fame, plus the growing Hall of Fame Village beside it, brings crowds every summer, especially for Enshrinement Week in late July and early August. About 69,000 people live in the city, in a larger area between Akron and Cleveland.
Beyond football, the McKinley Presidential Library and memorial, the Canton Museum of Art, the restored Palace Theatre and a small downtown arts district fill out a full day. Cost is the big attraction, since housing is far below the national average. Much of it is older, and parts of the east and south sides have vacant buildings and higher crime, so use caution late at night away from downtown. Winters bring lake effect snow and ice. Belden Village and North Canton feel calmer and more suburban.
